The Gita · Chapter 1

Bhagavad Gita 1.35

एतान्न हन्तुमिच्छामि घ्नतोऽपि मधुसूदन। अपि त्रैलोक्यराज्यस्य हेतोः किं नु महीकृते॥

etān na hantum ichchhāmi ghnato ’pi madhusūdana api trailokya-rājyasya hetoḥ kiṁ nu mahī-kṛite

Translation

These I do not wish to kill, though myself slain, O Madhusûdana, even for the sake of the kingship of the three worlds; how then for earth?

What it means

Even for the kingship of the three worlds, Arjuna says, he would not kill these men, let alone for the earth. His refusal sounds noble and is partly sincere, but Krishna will test whether it springs from clarity or from collapse.

Try this today

A values statement at maximum stakes. Arjuna draws a line he will not cross for any reward.

Something to reflect on

Where is my actual 'not for three worlds' line - and is it where I think it is?
