The Gita · Chapter 11

Bhagavad Gita 11.24

nabhaḥ-spṛiśhaṁ dīptam aneka-varṇaṁ vyāttānanaṁ dīpta-viśhāla-netram dṛiṣhṭvā hi tvāṁ pravyathitāntar-ātmā dhṛitiṁ na vindāmi śhamaṁ cha viṣhṇo

Translation

Radiant, Thou touchest heaven, rainbow-hued, With opened mouths and shining vast-orbed eyes. My inmost self is quaking, having seen, My strength is withered, Vishnu, and my peace.

What it means

Touching the sky, blazing, many-colored, with gaping mouths and vast fiery eyes: seeing You thus, my inmost self is shaken, and I find no courage or peace, O Vishnu. Beauty and horror are one at this scale. The nervous system of even a hero has limits.

Try this today

The honest report of overwhelm: composure gone, stability gone.

Something to reflect on

What experience has ever exceeded my capacity to hold it?
