The Gita · Chapter 11

Bhagavad Gita 11.31

आख्याहि मे को भवानुग्ररूपो नमोऽस्तु ते देववर प्रसीद। विज्ञातुमिच्छामि भवन्तमाद्यं न हि प्रजानामि तव प्रवृत्तिम्॥

ākhyāhi me ko bhavān ugra-rūpo namo ’stu te deva-vara prasīda vijñātum ichchhāmi bhavantam ādyaṁ na hi prajānāmi tava pravṛittim

Translation

Reveal Thy Self; what awful Form art Thou? I worship Thee! Have mercy, God supreme! Thine inner Being I am fain to know; This Thy forth-streaming Life bewilders me.

What it means

Tell me who You are, of form so terrible; salutations to You, O supreme God, have mercy; I wish to know You, the primal One, for I do not comprehend Your working. The question after awe is identity. Arjuna wants the name behind the fire.

Try this today

The plea for the key: the form is seen but not understood - who is this, and what is it doing?

Something to reflect on

What is the name behind the force that is currently rearranging my life?
