The Gita · Chapter 16

Bhagavad Gita 16.8

असत्यमप्रतिष्ठं ते जगदाहुरनीश्वरम्।अपरस्परसम्भूतं किमन्यत्कामहैतुकम्॥

asatyam apratiṣhṭhaṁ te jagad āhur anīśhvaram aparaspara-sambhūtaṁ kim anyat kāma-haitukam

Translation

"The universe is without truth, without basis," they say, "without a God; brought about by mutual union, and caused by lust and nothing else."

What it means

"The world is without truth, without foundation, without a Lord," they say, "born of mutual union, caused by desire, nothing more." Reductionism is quoted as the demonic creed: everything is accident and appetite. Meaning is denied at the root.

Try this today

The worldview stated: meaninglessness adopted as license. What you believe about the whole shapes what you permit yourself.

Something to reflect on

If I believed the world were accident and appetite only, what would I permit myself?
