Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 2

Bhagavad Gita 2.28

अव्यक्तादीनि भूतानि व्यक्तमध्यानि भारत। अव्यक्तनिधनान्येव तत्र का परिदेवना॥

avyaktādīni bhūtāni vyakta-madhyāni bhārata avyakta-nidhanānyeva tatra kā paridevanā

Translation

Beings are unmanifest in their origin, manifest in their midmost state, O Bhârata, unmanifest likewise are they in dissolution. What room then for lamentation?

What it means

Beings are unmanifest before birth, manifest in between, unmanifest again at death. Why lament a brief interval of visibility? The middle chapter of existence is not the whole book.

Try this today

Life is a brief visible interval between two invisibilities. The interval is what we get; lamenting its edges misses the middle.

Something to reflect on

Do I mistake the visible middle of a life for the whole of it?
