The Gita · Chapter 2

Bhagavad Gita 2.9

एवमुक्त्वा हृषीकेशं गुडाकेशः परन्तप। न योत्स्य इति गोविन्दमुक्त्वा तूष्णीं बभूव ह॥

sañjaya uvācha evam-uktvā hṛiṣhīkeśhaṁ guḍākeśhaḥ parantapa na yotsya iti govindam uktvā tūṣhṇīṁ babhūva ha

Translation

Sanjaya said: Gudâkesha, conqueror of his foes, having thus addressed Hrishîkesha and said to Govinda, "I will not fight!", became silent.

What it means

Having declared "I will not fight," Arjuna falls silent. The silence matters: argument is exhausted, and a quiet mind can finally hear. Sanjaya notes he is still "conqueror of foes"; the strength is intact, only direction is missing.

Try this today

His declaration and his silence both matter: he has stated his position and now listens. Say your piece fully, then stop talking.

Something to reflect on

After I state my position, can I actually stop and listen?
