The Gita · Chapter 9

Bhagavad Gita 9.33

किं पुनर्ब्राह्मणाः पुण्या भक्ता राजर्षयस्तथा। अनित्यमसुखं लोकमिमं प्राप्य भजस्व माम्॥

kiṁ punar brāhmaṇāḥ puṇyā bhaktā rājarṣhayas tathā anityam asukhaṁ lokam imaṁ prāpya bhajasva mām

Translation

How much rather then holy Brâhmanas and devoted royal saints; having obtained this transient joyless world, worship thou Me.

What it means

How much more, then, holy priests and devoted royal saints; having come to this fleeting, joyless world, worship Me. The argument moves from inclusion to urgency. Life here is short; devotion is the sensible response.

Try this today

The argument from the lesser to the greater, ending in the simple imperative: given the world is fleeting, devote.

Something to reflect on

If life is short and mostly unsatisfying, what is my sensible response this week?
