Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 1

Bhagavad Gita 1.8

भवान्भीष्मश्च कर्णश्च कृपश्च समितिञ्जयः। अश्वत्थामा विकर्णश्च सौमदत्तिस्तथैव च॥

bhavānbhīṣhmaśhcha karṇaśhcha kṛipaśhcha samitiñjayaḥ aśhvatthāmā vikarṇaśhcha saumadattis tathaiva cha

Translation

Thou, Lord, and Bhîshma, and Karna and Kripa, conquering in battle; Ashvatthâmâ, Vikarna, and Saumadatti also;

What it means

He names Drona himself, Bhishma, Karna, Kripa, Ashvatthama, Vikarna and Bhurishrava. It is a formidable list. Yet the verse quietly underlines the tragedy: the very men who raised and taught him must now bleed for his refusal to share a kingdom.

Try this today

Narrative verse; his own side's champions named.

Something to reflect on

Who raised me that I now treat as an opponent - and how did we get here?
