The Gita · Chapter 12

Bhagavad Gita 12.12

श्रेयो हि ज्ञानमभ्यासाज्ज्ञानाद्ध्यानं विशिष्यते।ध्यानात्कर्मफलत्यागस्त्यागाच्छान्तिरनन्तरम्॥

śhreyo hi jñānam abhyāsāj jñānād dhyānaṁ viśhiṣhyate dhyānāt karma-phala-tyāgas tyāgāch chhāntir anantaram

Translation

Better indeed is wisdom than constant-practice; than wisdom, meditation is better; than meditation, renunciation of the fruit of action; on renunciation follows peace.

What it means

Better is knowledge than mechanical practice; better than knowledge, meditation; better than meditation, renunciation of fruits; from renunciation, peace at once. Sastri reads the rungs as praise for the step within reach: the closing promise belongs to letting go of results.

Try this today

The surprising ranking: letting go of results outranks even meditation - and peace follows it immediately, not eventually.

Something to reflect on

What result could I renounce today that would bring peace immediately, not eventually?
