The Gita · Chapter 14

Bhagavad Gita 14.20

गुणानेतानतीत्य त्रीन्देही देहसमुद्भवान्।जन्ममृत्युजरादुःखैर्विमुक्तोऽमृतमश्नुते॥

guṇān etān atītya trīn dehī deha-samudbhavān janma-mṛityu-jarā-duḥkhair vimukto ’mṛitam aśhnute

Translation

When the dweller in the body hath crossed over these three qualities, whence all bodies have been produced, liberated from birth, death, old age and sorrow, he drinketh the nectar of immortality.

What it means

Having crossed over these three gunas, the source of the body's existence, the embodied one, freed from birth, death, old age and sorrow, drinks the nectar of immortality. Transcendence is described as crossing a border. The far side is unmixed life.

Try this today

The crossing promised: beyond all three modes, not just the lower two.

Something to reflect on

What would I be free of if I crossed not just fog and frenzy, but even the love of calm?
