Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 15

Bhagavad Gita 15.18

यस्मात्क्षरमतीतोऽहमक्षरादपि चोत्तमः।अतोऽस्मि लोके वेदे च प्रथितः पुरुषोत्तमः॥

yasmāt kṣharam atīto ’ham akṣharād api chottamaḥ ato ’smi loke vede cha prathitaḥ puruṣhottamaḥ

Translation

Since I excel the destructible, and am more excellent also than the indestructible, in the world and in the Veda I am proclaimed the Supreme Spirit.

What it means

Because I transcend the perishable and excel even the imperishable, I am renowned in the world and in the Vedas as the supreme Person. The title Purushottama is earned by exceeding both categories. God is more than the contrast between matter and soul.

Try this today

The title verse: beyond perishable and imperishable alike - the name of the chapter.

Something to reflect on

Do I reduce the ultimate to one side of a contrast - matter or soul - or beyond both?
