The Gita · Chapter 16

Bhagavad Gita 16.4

दम्भो दर्पोऽभिमानश्च क्रोधः पारुष्यमेव च।अज्ञानं चाभिजातस्य पार्थ सम्पदमासुरीम्॥

dambho darpo ’bhimānaśh cha krodhaḥ pāruṣhyam eva cha ajñānaṁ chābhijātasya pārtha sampadam āsurīm

Translation

Hypocrisy, arrogance and conceit, wrath and also harshness and unwisdom are his who is born, O Pârtha, with demoniacal properties.

What it means

Hypocrisy, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness and ignorance belong to one born for the demonic estate. The opposite list is short and sharp. Pretense heads it: the demonic begins with pretending.

Try this today

The counter-list: five traits that mark the other inheritance - performance, pride, rage, cruelty, confusion.

Something to reflect on

Which of the five - performance, pride, rage, harshness, confusion - is my shadow-side entry point?
