The Gita · Chapter 17

Bhagavad Gita 17.17

श्रद्धया परया तप्तं तपस्तत्ित्रविधं नरैः।अफलाकाङ्क्षिभिर्युक्तैः सात्त्विकं परिचक्षते॥

śhraddhayā parayā taptaṁ tapas tat tri-vidhaṁ naraiḥ aphalākāṅkṣhibhir yuktaiḥ sāttvikaṁ parichakṣhate

Translation

This threefold austerity, performed by men with the utmost faith, without desire for fruit, harmonised, is said to be pure.

What it means

This threefold austerity, practiced with supreme faith by harmonized people without desire for fruit, is declared sattvic. Motive again decides the grade. The same practices, aimed at gain, change color entirely.

Try this today

Body, speech and mind trained together, without invoice - that is the sattvic discipline.

Something to reflect on

If my discipline sent no invoice, would I still keep it?
