Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 18

Bhagavad Gita 18.22

यत्तु कृत्स्नवदेकस्मिन्कार्ये सक्तमहैतुकम्।अतत्त्वार्थवदल्पं च तत्तामसमुदाहृतम्॥

yat tu kṛitsna-vad ekasmin kārye saktam ahaitukam atattvārtha-vad alpaṁ cha tat tāmasam udāhṛitam

Translation

While that which clingeth to each one thing as if it were the whole, without reason, without grasping the reality, narrow, that is declared to be dark.

What it means

And that which clings to one thing as if it were the whole, without reason, without reality, petty: that is declared tamasic. Fanaticism is defined: a part mistaken for the whole. Small certainty is the darkest knowledge.

Try this today

Tamasic knowing: one fragment mistaken for the totality - ideology defined in one verse.

Something to reflect on

What single idea have I been treating as the whole picture?
