Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 18

Bhagavad Gita 18.39

यदग्रे चानुबन्धे च सुखं मोहनमात्मनः।निद्रालस्यप्रमादोत्थं तत्तामसमुदाहृतम्॥

yad agre chānubandhe cha sukhaṁ mohanam ātmanaḥ nidrālasya-pramādotthaṁ tat tāmasam udāhṛitam

Translation

That pleasure which both at first and afterwards is delusive of the self, arising from sleep, indolence and heedlessness, that is declared dark.

What it means

That pleasure which from beginning to end deludes the self, arising from sleep, indolence and heedlessness: that is declared tamasic. Some pleasures never even pretend to pay. Numbness costs everything and delivers nothing.

Try this today

Tamasic pleasure: dull at both ends - no joy in it anywhere, only escape.

Something to reflect on

Which of my comforts is dull at both ends - no joy, only escape?
