Bhagavad Gita 2.43
कामात्मानः स्वर्गपरा जन्मकर्मफलप्रदाम्। क्रियाविशेषबहुलां भोगैश्वर्यगतिं प्रति॥
kāmātmānaḥ svarga-parā janma-karma-phala-pradām kriyā-viśeṣa-bahulāṁ bhogaiśvarya-gatiṁ prati
Translation
With desire for self, with heaven for goal, they offer birth as the fruit of action, and prescribe many and various ceremonies for the attainment of pleasure and lordship.
What it means
Full of desire, aiming at heaven, they prescribe rituals for pleasure and power, offering rebirth as the fruit. Religion bent toward acquisition stays inside the cycle it claims to escape.
Try this today
Goal-corruption: even sacred practices get bent into transactions for comfort.
Something to reflect on
Have my practices become transactions - what am I trying to buy with them?
