The Gita · Chapter 2

Bhagavad Gita 2.69

या निशा सर्वभूतानां तस्यां जागर्ति संयमी। यस्यां जाग्रति भूतानि सा निशा पश्यतो मुनेः॥

yā niśhā sarva-bhūtānāṁ tasyāṁ jāgarti sanyamī yasyāṁ jāgrati bhūtāni sā niśhā paśhyato muneḥ

Translation

That which is the night of all beings, for the disciplined man is the time of waking; when other beings are waking, then is it night for the sage who seeth.

What it means

What is night for all beings is the time of waking for the disciplined; what is day for others is night for the seeing sage. The wise live in an inverted world: awake to what others sleep through, unmoved by what others chase.

Try this today

The wise live inverted to the crowd: awake where others sleepwalk (compulsion), unmoved where others chase (fashion, panic).

Something to reflect on

What is everyone around me chasing that I have quietly stopped wanting?
