Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 3

Bhagavad Gita 3.9

यज्ञार्थात्कर्मणोऽन्यत्र लोकोऽयं कर्मबन्धनः। तदर्थं कर्म कौन्तेय मुक्तसंगः समाचर॥

yajñārthāt karmaṇo ’nyatra loko ’yaṁ karma-bandhanaḥ tad-arthaṁ karma kaunteya mukta-saṅgaḥ samāchara

Translation

The world is bound by action, unless performed for the sake of sacrifice; for that sake, free from attachment, O son of Kuntî, perform thou action.

What it means

Action binds the world unless done as sacrifice, as offering. Act for that, free of attachment. The same deed that imprisons when done for "mine" liberates when done as gift.

Try this today

Action done as offering - for something larger than private gain - does not bind; the same act done for gain does.

Something to reflect on

What would change if I treated today's work as an offering?
