The Gita · Chapter 5

Bhagavad Gita 5.27

स्पर्शान्कृत्वा बहिर्बाह्यांश्चक्षुश्चैवान्तरे भ्रुवोः। प्राणापानौ समौ कृत्वा नासाभ्यन्तरचारिणौ॥

sparśānkṛtvā bahirbāhyāṃścakṣuścaivāntare bhruvoḥ prāṇāpānau samau kṛtvā nāsābhyantaracāriṇau

Translation

Having external contacts excluded, and with gaze fixed between the eyebrows; having made equal the outgoing and ingoing breaths moving within the nostrils;

What it means

Shutting out external contacts, gaze fixed between the brows, equalizing the in- and out-breaths moving through the nostrils: the meditation posture is given concretely. Attention, gaze and breath are the instruments.

Try this today

The chapter turns technical: concrete meditation posture, gaze and breath instruction.

Something to reflect on

When did I last sit with my inputs shut and my breath even - and what happened?
