The Gita · Chapter 6

Bhagavad Gita 6.1

Translation

The Blessed Lord said: He that performeth such action as his duty, independently of the fruit of action, he is an ascetic, he is a Yogî, not he that is without fire, and without rites.

What it means

One who does obligated work without depending on its fruit is the true renouncer and the true yogi, not the one who merely gives up fire and ritual. Renunciation is relocated from the altar to the motive.

Try this today

Renunciation redefined again: it is a motive, not a costume. The disengaged person may be neither holy nor disciplined.

Something to reflect on

Do I measure renunciation by what someone gave up or by what they still grasp?
