The Gita · Chapter 6

Bhagavad Gita 6.23

तं विद्याद् दुःखसंयोगवियोगं योगसंज्ञितम्। स निश्चयेन योक्तव्यो योगोऽनिर्विण्णचेतसा॥

taṁ vidyād duḥkha-sanyoga-viyogaṁ yogasaṅjñitam sa niśhchayena yoktavyo yogo ’nirviṇṇa-chetasā

Translation

That should be known by the name of yoga, this disconnection from the union with pain. This yoga must be clung to with a firm conviction and with undesponding mind.

What it means

Know this disconnection from union with pain by the name yoga; and it must be pursued with conviction and an undespairing mind. Yoga is defined as unhooking from suffering, and the attitude is specified: firm, unflagging.

Try this today

Yoga defined negatively and usefully: unhooking from pain. And it requires grit plus good cheer.

Something to reflect on

If yoga is unhooking from pain, which hook am I ready to work on first?
