The Gita · Chapter 8

Bhagavad Gita 8.17

सहस्रयुगपर्यन्तमहर्यद्ब्रह्मणो विदुः। रात्रिं युगसहस्रान्तां तेऽहोरात्रविदो जनाः॥

sahasra-yuga-paryantam ahar yad brahmaṇo viduḥ rātriṁ yuga-sahasrāntāṁ te ’ho-rātra-vido janāḥ

Translation

The people who know the day of Brahmâ, a thousand ages in duration, and the night a thousand ages in ending, they know day and night.

What it means

Those who know that a day of Brahma spans a thousand ages, and a night the same, are the true knowers of day and night. Cosmic time reframes human urgency. Against that scale, our deadlines are briefly visible ripples.

Try this today

Cosmic timescale introduced: even the longest cycles are still cycles.

Something to reflect on

How does my worst deadline look against a thousand ages?
