Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 1

Bhagavad Gita 1.10

अपर्याप्तं तदस्माकं बलं भीष्माभिरक्षितम्। पर्याप्तं त्विदमेतेषां बलं भीमाभिरक्षितम्॥

aparyāptaṁ tadasmākaṁ balaṁ bhīṣhmābhirakṣhitam paryāptaṁ tvidameteṣhāṁ balaṁ bhīmābhirakṣhitam

Translation

Yet insufficient seems this army of ours, though marshalled by Bhîshma, while that army of theirs seems sufficient, though marshalled by Bhîma;

What it means

Duryodhana sizes up the armies: "our strength, protected by Bhishma, seems insufficient; theirs, protected by Bhima, sufficient." Translators and commentators disagree on whether he voices doubt or confidence. Either way, the numbers do not settle the fear underneath.

Try this today

Even while boasting, fear leaks out. Confidence built on counting heads is fragile when the heart already doubts the cause.

Something to reflect on

Where does my stated confidence contradict what I actually feel?
