Bhagavad Gita 1.26

तत्रापश्यत्स्थितान्पार्थः पितृ़नथ पितामहान्। आचार्यान्मातुलान्भ्रातृ़न्पुत्रान्पौत्रान्सखींस्तथा॥

tatrāpaśyatsthitānpārthaḥ pitṛnatha pitāmahān ācāryānmātulānbhrātṛnputrānpautrānsakhīṃstathā

Translation

Then saw Pârtha standing there, uncles and grandfathers, teachers, mother's brothers, cousins, sons and grandsons, comrades,

What it means

Arjuna sees grandfathers, uncles, teachers, cousins, sons, grandsons and friends standing in both armies. The abstraction "enemy" dissolves into a family tree. Most real conflicts have this structure: the people across the line are never strangers.

Try this today

The abstract 'enemy' dissolves into individual relationships. Naming the people affected by a decision changes how it feels - and it should.

Something to reflect on

When I decide, do I picture the specific people affected, or only categories?
