Bhagavad Gita 1.40

कुलक्षये प्रणश्यन्ति कुलधर्माः सनातनाः। धर्मे नष्टे कुलं कृत्स्नमधर्मोऽभिभवत्युत॥

kula-kṣhaye praṇaśhyanti kula-dharmāḥ sanātanāḥ dharme naṣhṭe kulaṁ kṛitsnam adharmo ’bhibhavaty uta

Translation

In the destruction of a family the immemorial family traditions perish; in the perishing of tradition, lawlessness overcomes the whole family;

What it means

When a family is destroyed, Arjuna warns, its ancient traditions perish and lawlessness spreads. He reasons from social consequences. The argument is real, but it is also a mind building a case for the decision it has already reached.

Try this today

His argument shifts to consequences: war destroys not just people but the structures that hold conduct together.

Something to reflect on

What structures around me would collapse if the conflict I am in escalates?
