The Gita · Chapter 1

Bhagavad Gita 1.47

एवमुक्त्वाऽर्जुनः संख्ये रथोपस्थ उपाविशत्। विसृज्य सशरं चापं शोकसंविग्नमानसः॥

sañjaya uvācha evam uktvārjunaḥ saṅkhye rathopastha upāviśhat visṛijya sa-śharaṁ chāpaṁ śhoka-saṁvigna-mānasaḥ

Translation

Sanjaya said: Having thus spoken on the battle-field, Arjuna sank down on the seat of the chariot, casting away his bow and arrow, his mind overborne by grief.

What it means

Arjuna casts away bow and arrow and sinks down on his chariot seat, overwhelmed by grief. Chapter 1 ends not with a decision but with a collapse, and that collapse is the necessary ground. The Gita begins only when certainty has fallen apart.

Try this today

Chapter 1 ends in collapse, not resolution. The Gita's teaching begins exactly where self-reliance ends.

Something to reflect on

When did I last reach the end of my own answers - and what did I do next?
