The Gita · Chapter 1

Bhagavad Gita 1.5

धृष्टकेतुश्चेकितानः काशिराजश्च वीर्यवान्। पुरुजित्कुन्तिभोजश्च शैब्यश्च नरपुङ्गवः॥

dhṛṣṭaketuścekitānaḥ kāśirājaśca vīryavān purujitkuntibhojaśca śaibyaśca narapuṅgavaḥ

Translation

Drishtaketu, Chekitâna and the valiant King of Kâshi, Purujit and Kuntibhoja, and Shaivya, bull among men;

What it means

The roll of heroes continues: Drishtaketu, Chekitana, the king of Kashi, Purujit, Kuntibhoja, Shaivya. Each name carries a kingdom and a grievance. War is never abstract; it is a web of loyalties, and every name on the list is a life staked on Duryodhana's quarrel.

Try this today

Narrative verse; part of the catalogue of warriors.

Something to reflect on

Whose names are on the list my quarrel has written - and did they choose to be?
