The Gita · Chapter 10

Bhagavad Gita 10.42

अथवा बहुनैतेन किं ज्ञातेन तवार्जुन। विष्टभ्याहमिदं कृत्स्नमेकांशेन स्थितो जगत्॥

atha vā bahunaitena kiṁ jñātena tavārjuna viṣhṭabhyāham idaṁ kṛitsnam ekānśhena sthito jagat

Translation

But what is the knowledge of all these details to thee, O Arjuna? Having pervaded this whole universe with one fragment of Myself, I remain.

What it means

But what need is there of all this detail? I abide pervading this entire universe with a single fragment of Myself. The catalog collapses into one statement: all of this is a small part. The whole of existence is the tip of something greater.

Try this today

Chapter 10 closes by collapsing the list: one fragment upholds everything - the detail was generosity, not necessity.

Something to reflect on

What would change if I believed everything I see is a fragment of something greater?
