The Gita · Chapter 11

Bhagavad Gita 11.42

यच्चावहासार्थमसत्कृतोऽसि विहारशय्यासनभोजनेषु। एकोऽथवाप्यच्युत तत्समक्षं तत्क्षामये त्वामहमप्रमेयम्॥

yach chāvahāsārtham asat-kṛito ’si vihāra-śhayyāsana-bhojaneṣhu eko ’tha vāpy achyuta tat-samakṣhaṁ tat kṣhāmaye tvām aham aprameyam

Translation

If jesting I irreverence showed to Thee, At play, reposing, sitting or at meals, Alone, O sinless One, or with my friends, Forgive my error, O Thou boundless One.

What it means

If I showed You disrespect in jest, at play, in bed, at meals, alone or in company, I ask forgiveness for that, O boundless One. The apology is for familiarity itself. Love had hidden the scale of the Beloved.

Try this today

The confession completed: informality itself, however loving, feels like debt after the revelation.

Something to reflect on

Whose scale did my familiarity hide from me?
