The Gita · Chapter 11

Bhagavad Gita 11.44

तस्मात्प्रणम्य प्रणिधाय कायं प्रसादये त्वामहमीशमीड्यम्। पितेव पुत्रस्य सखेव सख्युः प्रियः प्रियायार्हसि देव सोढुम्॥

tasmāt praṇamya praṇidhāya kāyaṁ prasādaye tvām aham īśham īḍyam piteva putrasya sakheva sakhyuḥ priyaḥ priyāyārhasi deva soḍhum

Translation

Therefore I fall before Thee; with my body I worship as it fitting; bless Thou me. As father with the son, as friend with friend, With the beloved as lover, bear with me.

What it means

Therefore bowing, prostrating my body, I seek Your grace, adorable Lord; as a father with a son, a friend with a friend, a lover with the beloved, bear with me. Three relationships are invoked as models of patience. The plea is to be loved at the old, human scale.

Try this today

The plea for the old intimacy to survive the new knowledge: let the friendship hold the majesty.

Something to reflect on

Which old intimacy do I ask to survive a new knowledge?
