The Gita · Chapter 11

Bhagavad Gita 11.45

अदृष्टपूर्वं हृषितोऽस्मि दृष्ट्वा भयेन च प्रव्यथितं मनो मे। तदेव मे दर्शय देव रूपं प्रसीद देवेश जगन्निवास॥

adṛiṣhṭa-pūrvaṁ hṛiṣhito ’smi dṛiṣhṭvā bhayena cha pravyathitaṁ mano me tad eva me darśhaya deva rūpaṁ prasīda deveśha jagan-nivāsa

Translation

I have seen that which none hath seen before, My heart is glad, yet faileth me for fear; Show me, O God, Thine other Form again— Mercy, O God of Gods, home of all worlds—

What it means

Having seen what no one has seen before, I am glad, yet my mind trembles with fear; show me Your other form; be gracious, Lord of gods, home of the worlds. Joy and dread coexist. Arjuna asks for the face he can live with.

Try this today

Joy and terror in one sentence: the gift was real, and it was too much. Arjuna asks for the face he knew.

Something to reflect on

What have I been given that was real and also too much?
