The Gita · Chapter 13

Bhagavad Gita 13.1

इदं शरीरं कौन्तेय क्षेत्रमित्यभिधीयते।एतद्यो वेत्ति तं प्राहुः क्षेत्रज्ञ इति तद्विदः॥

śhrī-bhagavān uvācha idaṁ śharīraṁ kaunteya kṣhetram ity abhidhīyate etad yo vetti taṁ prāhuḥ kṣhetra-jña iti tad-vidaḥ

Translation

The Blessed Lord said: This body, son of Kuntî, is called the Field; that which knoweth it is called the Knower of the Field by the Sages.

What it means

This body is called the field; the one who knows it is called the knower of the field, say the sages. The chapter's foundation: you are the farmer, not the acreage. Everything observable belongs to the field; the observer does not.

Try this today

The chapter's core distinction: body as field, awareness as its farmer. You are not the field; you are the one watching it.

Something to reflect on

What changes when I treat my body-mind as a field I observe?
