The Gita · Chapter 14

Bhagavad Gita 14.17

सत्त्वात्सञ्जायते ज्ञानं रजसो लोभ एव च।प्रमादमोहौ तमसो भवतोऽज्ञानमेव च॥

sattvāt sañjāyate jñānaṁ rajaso lobha eva cha pramāda-mohau tamaso bhavato ’jñānam eva cha

Translation

From Harmony wisdom is born, and also greed from Motion; heedlessness and delusion are of Inertia and also unwisdom.

What it means

From sattva knowledge arises; from rajas, greed; from tamas, heedlessness, delusion and ignorance. Trace any inner state back to its guna. Self-observation becomes exact when you know the three sources.

Try this today

What each quality grows in you if you keep feeding it.

Something to reflect on

If I fed my current dominant mode for a year, what would it grow?
