The Gita · Chapter 14

Bhagavad Gita 14.23

उदासीनवदासीनो गुणैर्यो न विचाल्यते।गुणा वर्तन्त इत्येव योऽवतिष्ठति नेङ्गते॥

udāsīna-vad āsīno guṇair yo na vichālyate guṇā vartanta ity evaṁ yo ’vatiṣhṭhati neṅgate

Translation

He who, seated as a neutral, is unshaken by the qualities; who, saying, "The qualities revolve," standeth apart immovable.

What it means

Seated as a neutral, unshaken by the gunas, knowing "the gunas are turning," one stands apart, unmoved. Witness-consciousness is described in one sentence. The play goes on; the audience is calm.

Try this today

The witness stance: watching the modes rotate like weather - present but not enlisted.

Something to reflect on

Can I observe my own state without immediately becoming it?
