The Gita · Chapter 15

Bhagavad Gita 15.7

ममैवांशो जीवलोके जीवभूतः सनातनः।मनःषष्ठानीन्द्रियाणि प्रकृतिस्थानि कर्षति॥

mamaivānśho jīva-loke jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ manaḥ-ṣhaṣhṭhānīndriyāṇi prakṛiti-sthāni karṣhati

Translation

A portion of Mine own Self, transformed in the world of life into an immortal Spirit, draweth round itself the senses of which the mind is the sixth, veiled in matter.

What it means

A portion of My own Self is the eternal soul in the world of life, drawing around itself the senses, with mind the sixth, resting in nature. Sastri (Advaita) reads "portion" figuratively: the Self reflected, like space in a jar. One tradition's reading, not cross-tradition verified.

Try this today

The identity claim of the chapter: every being is a fragment of the one Self, wearing senses like clothing.

Something to reflect on

If every being wore senses like clothing, who is wearing mine?
