The Gita · Chapter 16

Bhagavad Gita 16.22

एतैर्विमुक्तः कौन्तेय तमोद्वारैस्त्रिभिर्नरः।आचरत्यात्मनः श्रेयस्ततो याति परां गतिम्॥

etair vimuktaḥ kaunteya tamo-dvārais tribhir naraḥ ācharaty ātmanaḥ śhreyas tato yāti parāṁ gatim

Translation

A man liberated from these three gates of darkness, O son of Kunti, accomplisheth his own welfare, and thus reacheth the highest goal.

What it means

A person released from these three gates of darkness practices what is truly good for the self and so reaches the highest goal. Liberation is described as an exit from three habits. The road to the highest runs past a very small gatehouse.

Try this today

The exit is the same door: renounce the three and welfare follows automatically.

Something to reflect on

If exiting three habits leads all the way up, why do I look for a longer road?
