The Gita · Chapter 16

Bhagavad Gita 16.23

Translation

He who, having cast aside the ordinances of the Scriptures, followeth the promptings of desire, attaineth not to perfection, nor happiness, nor the highest goal.

What it means

Whoever casts aside the rule of scripture and acts on the prompting of desire attains neither perfection, nor happiness, nor the highest goal. Impulse is a poor legislature. Without a higher reference, wanting becomes law, and it governs badly.

Try this today

Discarding all guidance systems to follow appetite: three forfeits named.

Something to reflect on

When impulse becomes my legislature, how does it govern?
