The Gita · Chapter 17

Bhagavad Gita 17.1

ये शास्त्रविधिमुत्सृज्य यजन्ते श्रद्धयाऽन्विताः।तेषां निष्ठा तु का कृष्ण सत्त्वमाहो रजस्तमः॥

arjuna uvācha ye śhāstra-vidhim utsṛijya yajante śhraddhayānvitāḥ teṣhāṁ niṣhṭhā tu kā kṛiṣhṇa sattvam āho rajas tamaḥ

Translation

Arjuna said: Those that sacrifice full of faith, but casting aside the ordinances of the Scriptures, what is verily their condition, O Krishna? Is it one of Purity, Passion, or Darkness?

What it means

Arjuna asks: those who sacrifice with faith but set aside the scriptural rules, what is their state: sattva, rajas or tamas? The question is precise: sincerity without guidance. Good intentions still need a taxonomy.

Try this today

A sharp question: sincere but unorthodox - where does that land? Faith alone versus faith plus form.

Something to reflect on

Am I sincere but unguided anywhere - and does sincerity alone save the practice?
