Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 17

Bhagavad Gita 17.11

अफलाकाङ्क्षिभिर्यज्ञो विधिदृष्टो य इज्यते।यष्टव्यमेवेति मनः समाधाय स सात्त्विकः॥

aphalākāṅkṣhibhir yajño vidhi-driṣhṭo ya ijyate yaṣhṭavyam eveti manaḥ samādhāya sa sāttvikaḥ

Translation

The sacrifice which is offered by men without desire for fruit, as enjoined by the ordinances, under the firm belief that sacrifice is a duty, that is pure.

What it means

Sacrifice offered without desire for fruit, according to rule, with the conviction that sacrifice is a duty: that is sattvic. Obligation cleanly done is the highest form. The best offering wants nothing back.

Try this today

Sattvic giving: done because it ought to be done, nothing more.

Something to reflect on

What do I do purely because it ought to be done?
