Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 17

Bhagavad Gita 17.12

अभिसंधाय तु फलं दम्भार्थमपि चैव यत्।इज्यते भरतश्रेष्ठ तं यज्ञं विद्धि राजसम्॥

abhisandhāya tu phalaṁ dambhārtham api chaiva yat ijyate bharata-śhreṣhṭha taṁ yajñaṁ viddhi rājasam

Translation

The sacrifice offered with a view verily to fruit, and also indeed for self-glorification, O best of the Bhâratas; know thou that to be of passion.

What it means

Sacrifice performed with a view to fruit, and for show: know that to be rajasic, O best of Bharatas. Calculation degrades the act. Worship done for an audience is advertising.

Try this today

Rajasic giving: the transaction and the applause are the point.

Something to reflect on

Which of my good deeds requires an audience to feel worth it?
