The Gita · Chapter 17

Bhagavad Gita 17.13

विधिहीनमसृष्टान्नं मन्त्रहीनमदक्षिणम्।श्रद्धाविरहितं यज्ञं तामसं परिचक्षते॥

vidhi-hīnam asṛiṣhṭānnaṁ mantra-hīnam adakṣhiṇam śhraddhā-virahitaṁ yajñaṁ tāmasaṁ parichakṣhate

Translation

The sacrifice contrary to the ordinances, without distributing food, devoid of words of power and without gifts, empty of faith, is said to be of darkness.

What it means

Sacrifice contrary to rule, without food distributed, without mantras, without gifts, without faith, is declared tamasic. Form and spirit both missing. A rite emptied of generosity and belief is only noise.

Try this today

Tamasic ritual: hollow form, no heart, no sharing.

Something to reflect on

Where do I keep a form and empty it of heart and generosity?
