The Gita · Chapter 17

Bhagavad Gita 17.28

Translation

Whatsoever is wrought without faith, oblation, gift, austerity, or other deed, "Asat" it is called, O Pârtha; it is nought, here or hereafter.

What it means

Whatever is done without faith, oblation, gift, austerity or any deed, is called Asat, unreal; it is nothing here or hereafter. The closing formula weighs every act by its sincerity. Without faith, even virtue is weightless.

Chapter 17's final test: faithless action does not count - not punished, just void, in both worlds.

Something to reflect on

Which of my deeds, done without faith, turned out to count for nothing?
