Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 18

Bhagavad Gita 18.35

यया स्वप्नं भयं शोकं विषादं मदमेव च।न विमुञ्चति दुर्मेधा धृतिः सा पार्थ तामसी॥

yayā svapnaṁ bhayaṁ śhokaṁ viṣhādaṁ madam eva cha na vimuñchati durmedhā dhṛitiḥ sā pārtha tāmasī

Translation

That by which one from stupidity doth not abandon sleep, fear, grief, despair, and also vanity, that firmness, O Pârtha, is dark.

What it means

That by which, from stupidity, one does not let go of sleep, fear, grief, despair and conceit: that firmness is tamasic. Holding on to misery is a kind of perseverance. Not all steadfastness is virtue; some is sediment.

Try this today

Tamasic persistence: holding on to what harms - loyalty to one's own fog.

Something to reflect on

What harmful thing do I persist in out of sheer habit?
