Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 2

Bhagavad Gita 2.38

सुखदुःखे समे कृत्वा लाभालाभौ जयाजयौ। ततो युद्धाय युज्यस्व नैवं पापमवाप्स्यसि॥

sukha-duḥkhe same kṛitvā lābhālābhau jayājayau tato yuddhāya yujyasva naivaṁ pāpam avāpsyasi

Translation

Taking as equal pleasure and pain, gain and loss, victory and defeat, gird thee for the battle; thus thou shalt not incur sin.

What it means

Holding pleasure and pain, gain and loss, victory and defeat as equal, then fight; so you incur no sin. This is the hinge verse: equality of mind is what purifies action, not withdrawal from it.

Try this today

The seed of karma yoga: equal-mindedness about outcomes frees action from contamination.

Something to reflect on

Can I commit fully to this while holding win and loss in the same hand?
