Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 2

Bhagavad Gita 2.46

यावानर्थ उदपाने सर्वतः संप्लुतोदके। तावान्सर्वेषु वेदेषु ब्राह्मणस्य विजानतः॥

yāvān artha udapāne sarvataḥ samplutodake tāvānsarveṣhu vedeṣhu brāhmaṇasya vijānataḥ

Translation

All the Vedas are as useful to an enlightened Brâhmana as is a tank in a place covered all over with water.

What it means

As much use as a tank when a flood covers everything: that much are all the Vedas to the knowing one. The lesser is contained in the greater, not despised; when the whole is directly available, the part has served its purpose.

Try this today

When the goal itself is reached, the instruments graduate from necessity to reference. Tools serve until understanding floods in.

Something to reflect on

Which tool has served its purpose that I keep using out of habit?
