Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 2

Bhagavad Gita 2.49

दूरेण ह्यवरं कर्म बुद्धियोगाद्धनञ्जय। बुद्धौ शरणमन्विच्छ कृपणाः फलहेतवः॥

dūreṇa hy-avaraṁ karma buddhi-yogād dhanañjaya buddhau śharaṇam anvichchha kṛipaṇāḥ phala-hetavaḥ

Translation

Far lower than the Yoga of Discrimination is action, O Dhananjaya. Take thou refuge in the Pure Reason; pitiable are they who work for fruit.

What it means

Action done for fruit is far inferior to action with discernment; take refuge in clear reason. Motive determines the quality of work. Working for reward alone makes the work and the worker small.

Try this today

Mere busy work ranks below work done in evenness; the motive changes the quality of the same act.

Something to reflect on

Is my work today excellent, or merely busy for a reward?
