Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 2

Bhagavad Gita 2.59

विषया विनिवर्तन्ते निराहारस्य देहिनः। रसवर्जं रसोऽप्यस्य परं दृष्ट्वा निवर्तते॥

viṣhayā vinivartante nirāhārasya dehinaḥ rasa-varjaṁ raso ’pyasya paraṁ dṛiṣhṭvā nivartate

Translation

The objects of sense, but not the relish for them, turn away from an abstemious dweller in the body; and even relish turneth away from him after the Supreme is seen.

What it means

Sense objects fall away from one who fasts, but the taste remains; even the taste turns away when the Supreme is seen. Suppression is incomplete. Only a higher attraction permanently dissolves a lower one.

Try this today

Abstinence removes objects but not craving; only a higher satisfaction removes craving. Replace, do not just remove.

Something to reflect on

What am I white-knuckling that needs a replacement, not more willpower?
