Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 2

Bhagavad Gita 2.62

ध्यायतो विषयान्पुंसः सङ्गस्तेषूपजायते। सङ्गात् संजायते कामः कामात्क्रोधोऽभिजायते॥

dhyāyato viṣhayān puṁsaḥ saṅgas teṣhūpajāyate saṅgāt sañjāyate kāmaḥ kāmāt krodho ’bhijāyate

Translation

Man, musing on the objects of sense, conceiveth an attachment to these; from attachment ariseth desire; from desire anger cometh forth;

What it means

Dwelling on objects breeds attachment; attachment breeds desire; desire breeds anger. The Gita traces the chain of inner collapse link by link, so it can be broken at the first link: what the mind dwells on.

Try this today

The famous causal chain, step one to three: attention -> attachment -> craving -> anger at frustration.

Something to reflect on

Which object currently holds my attention enough to generate this chain?
