The Gita · Chapter 3

Bhagavad Gita 3.27

प्रकृतेः क्रियमाणानि गुणैः कर्माणि सर्वशः। अहङ्कारविमूढात्मा कर्ताऽहमिति मन्यते॥

prakṛiteḥ kriyamāṇāni guṇaiḥ karmāṇi sarvaśhaḥ ahankāra-vimūḍhātmā kartāham iti manyate

Translation

All actions are wrought by the quali ties of nature only. The self, deluded by egoism, thinketh: "I am the doer."

What it means

All actions are performed by the gunas of nature; the self, deluded by ego, thinks "I am the doer." Pride of authorship is the core illusion. Seeing the machinery at work loosens both pride and guilt.

Try this today

The ego's fundamental misread: nature's machinery produces the actions; the 'I' merely claims them.

Something to reflect on

Which of my 'achievements' were machinery I merely took credit for?
