Bhagavad Gita 4.12
काङ्क्षन्तः कर्मणां सिद्धिं यजन्त इह देवताः। क्षिप्रं हि मानुषे लोके सिद्धिर्भवति कर्मजा॥
kāṅkṣhantaḥ karmaṇāṁ siddhiṁ yajanta iha devatāḥ kṣhipraṁ hi mānuṣhe loke siddhir bhavati karmajā
Translation
They who long after success in action on earth worship the Shining Ones; for in brief space verily, in this world of men, success is born of action.
What it means
Those who want success in actions here worship the gods, for success from action comes quickly in the human world. Krishna acknowledges ordinary religion honestly: it works, for worldly ends. He is preparing a larger claim.
Try this today
A candid observation: most religious practice is transactional, aimed at quick results - and quick results do come.
Something to reflect on
Which of my efforts are transactions - and do they deliver what I truly want?
